28.11.07
Our friends in Canada reached a major milestone on their way toward the next Winter Games, with the announcement of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games mascots.
Named Quatchi, Miga and Sumi, the mascots will meet and greet athletes, visitors and fans from around the world when they visit Vancouver and Whistler. Each of the distinct mascots is a mythical creature inspired by local legend. One is a sasquatch. One is a sea bear. And one is an animal guardian spirit.
On November 27, the mascots were revealed to the public, including a special theatrical event for 800 schoolchildren, A global audience of thousands can meet the mascots ‘virtually’, read their stories and enjoy the interactive features on the Vancouver 2010 mascot website.
Quatchi, Miga and Sumi now have a place in Games mascot history joining, among others, Misha from the Moscow 1980 Olympic Summer Games. Soon it will be Sochi’s turn to add another history chapter and we can hardly wait.
