Sochi 2014 Team Receives Prestigious “Slava“ Award

An illustrious gathering of Russian sports personalities today awarded the "Slava" award - the counry's top award for sport - to Sochi 2014 at a lavish ceremony in Moscow.
The event, held at the capital's Russian Army Central Academic Theatre, also saw personal recognition for Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Sochi 2014 Supervisory Board, Alexander Zhukov, for his role in Sochi's successful Bid for the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Receiving the award for Sochi 2014 were Organising Committee President and CEO, Dmitry Chernyshenko, four-time Olympic swimming champion and International Olympic Committee member, Alexander Popov, Sochi 2014 Bid Committee Chairwoman Elena Anikina, Paralympic champion Mikhail Terentiev, and three-time Olympic figure skating legend, Irina Rodnina.
They were joined by Vyacheslav Fetisov, Chairman of the Federal Agency for Physical Training and Sport and a two-time Olympic ice hockey gold medalist, whom the "Slava" award was named after.
Cosmonaut Fedor Yurchikhin and Russia's young European Figure Skating Champion, Daria Potova, jointly presented the “Slava” award to the Sochi 2014 team. The city, on Russia's Black Sea coast, was awarded the Games at the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) 119th session in July 2007.
