BID HIGHLIGHTS

Sochi 2014: a Compact and Efficient Plan

Two proposed Olympic Villages will be located conveniently for the athletes, with the main Olympic Village situated on the Black Sea coast and the sub-Village in the mountains. They will meet the highest international environmental and sustainability standards.

Eleven competition venues will be organised into two clusters, both highly compact, with the average distance of 6 km between the coastal venues and the Olympic Village, and the average distance of 4 km between the mountain venues and the mountain sub-Village. The distance between the two clusters will be 48 km.

The "Coastal Cluster" for ice events will be located in Sochi's Imeretinskaya Valley along the Black Sea.

The "Mountain Cluster" will be located in Sochi's Krasnaya Polyana mountains.

The Main Media Centre (MMC) will be located in the Imeretinskaya cluster, immediately adjacent to transportation and on the shore. A sub-Media Centre will serve the mountain cluster in Sochi's Krasnaya Polyana mountains.

An upgraded transport infrastructure will provide a multi-modal transport system, with special Olympic Routes, Olympic Lanes and a new tunnel between the coast and Sochi's Krasnaya Polyana mountains.

State-of-the-art installations and accommodations will welcome the Olympic Family and the spectators in the best weather conditions, with a minimal environmental impact and the highest security standards for a perfect celebration of the Games.

All the necessary construction and renovations will be completed by 2014, as guaranteed in the 12 billion USD "Federal Target Programme for the Development of Sochi 2006-2014", to be financed jointly by the Russian Government and private companies.

A Strong Legacy for Russia and the Olympic Family

The city of Sochi will be developed into a year-round, world-class resort destination, with enhanced local economic growth and diversification, thanks to the Federal Target Programme for the Development of Sochi.

Russia will be a strong partner of the Olympic Movement, as the development of the winter sports centre in Sochi s Krasnaya Polyana mountains will provide athletes and international federations with state-of-the-art facilities to train and compete in Russia.

A celebration of the "new Russia" during the 2014 Olympic Winter Games will showcase the nation's renewal and highlight the contribution of the Olympic Movement to the transformation of developing countries.

The Olympic Winter Games, a Russian Passion

270 individual medals in 12 Olympic Winter Games demonstrate that Russia is a Winter Sports nation that is passionately committed to the Olympic Winter Games.

Russian athletes have won more medals than any other country in the history of the Olympic Winter Games. Russia was ranked first in 8 out of the 13 Olympic Winter Games.

Russian youth are educated about the history and ideals of the Olympic movement in school.

2006 is the 50th anniversary of Russia's participation in the Olympic Winter Games.

In 2014, Russia hopes to host the first Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in its history.
