LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) - The International Olympic Committee opened the bidding process Thursday for the sale of European broadcast rights for the 2014 and 2016 games.

Bidders must be able to reach the «broadest possible audience across different media platforms,» as well as promote the values of the Olympic movement, the IOC said in a statement. Bids must be submitted by July 1.

The 2014 Winter Games will be held in Sochi, Russia. The host city for the 2016 Summer Games will be decided in October 2009.

The 2016 candidates are Chicago; Madrid, Spain; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Tokyo; Baku, Azerbaijan; Doha, Qatar; and Prague, Czech Republic. The IOC will cut the field to a group of finalists next month.
