Positioning statement

The Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will open the door to a dynamic and exciting future for the people of Russia and leave a precedent-setting legacy for the Olympic Movement.

Gateway to a Historic Legacy

The Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will offer a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to establish a winter sport capital in Russia, the largest winter sport country. Russia’s elite athletes, as well as amateur sport enthusiasts, will be able to train at Russia’s first-ever winter sport centre in Sochi. The Games will inspire the young generations of Russians to aim for athletic excellence and promote development of sport among the 143 million passionate supporters, who are ready to participate in winter sport as never before. This is an opportunity without a precedent.

Gateway to the Russian Renaissance

The 2014 Winter Games would serve as a catalyst of the social and economic development of the Sochi region and all of Russia, helping to drive positive change across multiple areas of social life, including integration of people with disabilities, environmental awareness, corporate transparency and accountability. Historically, Russians have had an exceptionally strong affinity with the Olympic Movement and its ideals. Hosting Russia’s first-ever Olympic Winter Games would help reinforce these values in the society currently enjoying an economic and political renaissance.

Gateway to the Russian Riviera

Sochi offers a unique and stunning setting for the Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Two thousand meter-high mountains with powdery snow and comfortable winter temperatures are within a touching distance of the Black Sea and Sochi’s beautiful beaches, often referred to as the Russian Riviera. Visitors to the Games would be assured the warmest of winter welcomes from a region that is legendary for its hospitality. The Sochi 2014 Winter Games would offer a once-in-alifetime experience for the athletes and the spectators, made even more special by the well-known Russian passion for winter sport, which would create an exhilarating atmosphere throughout the Games.
