Sochi 2014 announced Monday that the international hotel chain Sheraton plans
to open a hotel in the city in 2011 for the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter
Games.
According to Sochi 2014 the new 200 plus room hotel will play an important
role in the transformation of Sochi, which, according to a press release, is
already Russia's most popular summer tourist destination welcoming more than
four million visitors a year. There are already more than 400 two to five-star
hotels, with that number set to increase significantly up to 2014 and
beyond.
The IOC requires Sochi to be served by at least 57,368 mid-to-top range
hotels in 2014, which the organizing committee says will be matched and exceeded
by 2014.
Dmitry Chernyshenko, President and CEO of Sochi 2014 said, "I am delighted
that Starwood Hotels and Resorts has chosen Sochi to build only the second
Sheraton Hotel in Russia. More than five years before Russia's first Winter
Games takes place it is already acting as a major catalyst for investment in the
Krasnodar Region. This will create a significant economic legacy for the people
of Sochi, including new jobs, while providing a huge opportunity for the
companies recognizing the potential of our beautiful Black Sea resort."
The Sochi Sheraton will be a top-of-the-range hotel with five restaurants,
four bars, and a roof top bar with views of the Black Sea and its
surroundings.
