The key objectives of the Olympic education program are to educate and inform society about the Sochi 2014 Winter Games and to help those who want to make a career out of major sporting event organisation. It is for this reason that the Organizing Committee has teamed up with relevant Government ministries and agencies to develop an innovative Olympic education system called “Sochi 2014.” The System consists of several areas of study.
The first area is focused upon popular education. Regular briefings on the Games as well as the broader aims and values of the Olympic and Paralympic Movements are given to a variety of key groups. These include Sochi residents, Games staff, students from pre-school through to university, athletes, people with disabilities, foreign guests, as well as influential figures. Educational programmes are delivered through three main channels: the ‘School Desk’ (extra-curricular activities in schools), the “Screen” (Media), and the ‘Stadium’ (sporting events). The second area of the Olympic education program is academic, in other words, integrated into academic curriculums. This consists of physical education lessons in schools, as well as history and geography lessons focusing on the Olympic and Paralympic Movements. This program also involves the creation of educational modules for university students that focus on existing specializations.
Finally, a unique project by the Olympic education program is the Russian International Olympic University. Established in Beijing on August 8, 2008, the Russian Olympic University was initiated by the Organizing Committee in the presence of Jacques Rogge and Vladimir Putin. Its main role is to create a training platform for top-level managers for the Games. The development of the University is a major milestone in preparation for the Games. It will not only educate managers for future Games, but it will also conduct research and provide consulting services. MBA and Executive MBA programs will be offered, as well as short-term continuing professional education programs. The Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee staff and partner company personnel will be the first students to go through these programs. For more information about the University.
