Russia’s First Ever Snowboard Medallist Celebrated at Sochi World

Ekaterina Ilyukhina, winner of Russia’s first ever Olympic snowboard medal, visited Sochi World today following her silver medal winning run to celebrate and share her experience with fans and media.

Ilyukhina secured Olympic silver in the snowboarding Parallel Giant Slalom at Cypress Mountain behind Nicolien Sauerbreij of the Netherlands. This marked the 23 year-old student’s first time competing at an Olympic Winter Games and Russia’s fifteenth medal of the Games.

Ilyukhina commented “I very much wanted to win a medal but did not believe that it could happen until it did. I am very happy”

Also in attendance at the press conference was Valeriy Tikhonmirov, Vice-President of the Russian Ski Federation. Mr. Tikhonmirov commended the members of the team for their hard work and determination and stated that “in Sochi, we will have gold.”
