Sochi World hosts hi-tech 3D video bridge from Vancouver to Moscow

This morning a live video conference was hosted between Vancouver and Moscow. Rostelecom, Sochi 2014 general partner, provided the latest in technology to create a 3D holographic bridge between the two cities and its participants.

Participating in the innovative video conference were Igor Levitin, Minister of Transport of Russia (in Moscow), Dmitry Kozak, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia (in Vancouver), Dmitry Chernyshenko, Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, President and CEO (in Vancouver), Anton Kolpakov, Rostelecom, General director (in Vancouver).

Rosetelecom used a special system of 3D and video production technology to create a holographic image of Minister Levitin in Sochi World. The image was clear and there were no delays in sound or picture. The unique feature of the broadcasting was that no additional equipment was needed for spectators to see the image.

Anton Kolpakov, Rostelecom, General director said: “Today we demonstrated a technology of the future, which we plan to use frequently at the Sochi 2014 Olympic winter Games. The partnership with the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee has allowed Rostelecom to perform this challenging project, which has great potential.”

Dmitry Chernyshenko, Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, President and CEO said: “The Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games will be the most innovative in history. We are thrilled to have Rostelecom as our telecommunication partner. Their expertise in operating a 3D bridge will be widely used during the preparation and running of the Sochi 2014 games.”
