Every day in my job I meet people from different countries. So I can understand what it will mean for Sochi if we can secure the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.  Overnight my city will become world famous.  Tourism will boom and everyone in the region will benefit.  Just as important, the Games will bring new social and cultural perspectives and widen the horizons of all of us.

For me, Sochi is the `pearl` of Russia a gem that deserves to be known by the wider world.  Hosting the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will do more than help our tourism industry and give it the world status that it deserves. The Games will also be evidence that the world acknowledges the unique character of our city and region.

The 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games are more important for my children than for me. The Games can give my children a better future, ensuring they live in an improved city. Just as important, my children will have the chance to get to know people from other countries whom they would not otherwise have met. What can be better and more wonderful than providing a better future for our children while at the same time improving our own lives?

While it s difficult to say exactly what the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will mean for Sochi, it is clear that they will bring change. And one of the first lessons of life is that we must all embrace change. The Games can help to bring the changes that Sochi needs. For example, the city needs large-scale long-term investments for its future development. Hosting this world-class sporting event will help to bring the improvements our city needs and build tourism infrastructure that meets the highest international standards.

There have been many positive changes in the life of the citizens of Sochi and Russia in general over the past few years. The quality of rail passenger services has improved, railway stations have been renovated and employees now have comfortable working conditions. Hosting the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games here will bring further improvements both for the citizens of Sochi and our guests. The Olympic ideals will help to unite people, bringing spiritual contentment.
